The Key

I stood at the door and tried as I may to open it-the key simply refused to work. Feeling hopeless after many unsuccessful attempts, I sunk down to the floor and rested my head against the door, closing my eyes in defeat, I listened to the sound of my breathing and the far a way cries of screaming seagulls. After a few moments, I willed them open. The sunlight was streaming in from the near by window, illuminating the hallway. I studied the patterns of light as they danced to and fro, mesmerized as only a child could be. Suddenly I jumped up forgetting about the room and raced down stairs to run and dance in the sunlight.
